Website copy, business or corporate writing, novels or short stories, scripts of any kind, ghost writing; you name it. My goal is to provide you with the highest quality work possible without breaking the bank.

Andrew Tobia (that’s me!) graduated from Suffolk University in Boston with a BA in English. I’m often asked what it means to have an English degree; in short, I studied how to read, write, and understand the English language in all of its wonderful, varied forms.

Editing and writing aren’t hobbies for me; I chose to dedicate my life to them. I’ve written and edited in just about every genre and style, and am highly adaptable in terms of both form and function. I’ve served on the editorial staff of two literary magazines, Salamander and Venture. In my day job, I’m responsible for the copy editing and layout of nine—that’s right, nine—local weekly newspapers.

Process and Payment

I use Microsoft Word 2010, but I have access to earlier versions or Open Office, if you prefer me to work in one of those programs for any reason. I also have Adobe CS5, if you need me to work in an INDD file. In all of these programs, I do my edits and make comments using the Track Changes feature, allowing you to go through and accept or decline my changes as you see fit. If you’d like me to work on a hard copy, I will do so using standard editing marks (in red pen, of course) and/or listing recommended changes in a Word document.

Editorially, I offer proofreading, copy editing, and developmental editing (or anything in between, as your needs require), and academic editing. I also offer writing services. See “Services” for the differences between these types of editing to help you decide which would be best for you.

Before you contract my services, I will happily provide you with a sample of work amounting to roughly two percent of your total project. Then, when you are ready to proceed, I will provide you with a free quote. For large projects, one third of the total cost is due upfront; the remainder is payable upon completion. For smaller projects (determined case-by-case), the entirety of the cost is payable upon completion. For steady projects (a weekly newsletter, for example), you will be billed periodically.
